What’s going on?

Nothing spectacular, sadly.  PAX came and went, Eurogamer is going on right now, but there hasn’t been anything worth mentioning as far as I am concerned.  I was glad to finally see Asura week, but again this is a minor bit of information.  I’d like to see the final profession and some more about world/organized pvp.  I guess I will just have to wait it out.  There’s nothing big coming from the other MMO I’m waiting for, TERA.  With the release of the “go date” for NA players there’s no major reason to continue checking on them aside from potential Beta stuff.

For the time being I’ve been bouncing around games like a child with ADD.  I was thinking about pre-ording the Rise of Isengard, but dissuaded  myself because I play the game so casually it would be a waste of funds.  Free-to-play games have filled up my leisure time when I’m not watching new episodes of my favorite animes…  Btw, Usagi Drop and No. 6 are both very enjoyable, if short.

In an attempt to make this post more GW2 focused.  Two great fan sites function as profession specific havens and we will be certain to come across more as the game nears relea… the future.

First up is  Thiefcraft.  Started back in April, since when there’s be a casual lull, but hopefully there will be something more to come from them in the future.

Up next is NecroBator.  What I hope is the word combination of Necromancer of incuBator.  They have been running strong since… June I think?  They have quite the websource at their disposal.  Complete with login, forums, GW2 related tools, and general GW2 news.  All of this comes included with the wonderous Necromancer focus of the fan site.  :D

Finally is a potential contender from ShaunNox over at ConjurePhantasm.  If we happen to discover that everyone’s assumptions are correct and the final profession is the Mesmer, which we all happen to suspect, then ShaunNox will be leading the charge for a Mesmer focused GW2 fan site.  He’s currently looking for willing participants to development said goal, but again… there’s still that pesky issue have having the 8th profession be the Mesmer.  Best of luck to you Nox.

PAX Prime right now – GW2

I can’t believe I almost missed it.  I thought I had another day or so.  My internal clock is off.

Anyway, here are some vids from MattVisual on 5v5 Tournament PvP.

Sylvari Week on the Horizon (Updated for Eurogamer Expo)

About 20 minutes ago it was confirmed through a tweet that GW2 will be having Sylvari week before Gamescom (in August) and they will be playable at Gamescom and PAX.  I’m looking forward to seeing what the redesign is going to be, because the initial presentation of the race didn’t… well, it didn’t fit the setting.  Cartoony green skinned elf people.

[UPDATE:  From the bits of information I was able to round up, we can safely assume that Sylvari are going to be playable at Eurogamer Expo in London as well.  You can hold me accountable if this proves false.  But I can't see Anet toting around a second version of the demo in September, when they had a playable version with Sylvari in August.  :)]

Shortly after this Anet discussed the need for a redesign and the GW2 community has been waiting, and speculating, patiently.  There’s been a good variety of concept art that doesn’t look anything like the characters in the first image.

With such a contrast between the images we have to go off, I have no idea what the final product will end up looking like.

From what little I know about Sylvari and this is for visual appearance alone, I know that they’re are birthed from the fruit of a great tree.  If they’re associated with fruit then I hope that is conveyed with their redesign.  Frankly I don’t see fruit when I see any of the concept art.  Maybe the last one, but not entirely.

We’ll just have to wait and see.

Summer Plans

Originally I was wanting to go to PAX Prime in August, but I missed the sale period of the 3-day passes and didn’t want to drive up to Seattle for only 2 days.  (I want the full experience!)  Also, I would have gone with my brother and that would mean more expensive passes.  Looks like I’ll just have to remain here during those succulent events and wait for youtube to present me with the goodies I desire.

Other than out of the house events, and random vaca spots I’ll be hitting during my summer, there are a few games in my lineup.

First off, I need to finish a few of my smaller goals in Aion.  The PvP is nothing spectacular there so my overall goals are relatively minute;  gather a few coins from mentor quests, finish my gear, maybe get closer to 55… maybe even 55 itself.  I don’t care for raiding, grinding the same instances for gear, or the Abyss siege warfare (it’s a more frustrating, horrible, and boring version of WAR’s RvR lakes… sort of).

With Aion out of the way, I am trying to beat Fallout 3 for the first time.  Even though I’ve owned the game for a few years now.  Sad story, I know.  I just couldn’t get into it as deeply as Oblivion.  I love the fact that Liam Neeson is in it and the game setting is enjoyable.  It’s just sort of… ok to me though.  Anyway, I finish Fallout 3 and take it back to Gamestop with a few other beaten titles in exchange for Uncharted 2.  I progress through console games slowly, usually.  Mainly because of the ridiculous prices upon their release.  By the time I finish Uncharted 2 and return to MMO’ing and finish many other things I want to do Uncharted 3 should be cheaper.  That’s the plan. <3

I am currently goofing around with Dragon Nest’s beta.  Nexon’s next action style MMO.  I figured I see what it had to offer, since I’m interested in TERA.  It’s nice to have comparisons.  I’ll probably have screenshots or something later on.

Finally, before TERA possibly comes out in August (it’s a guess), I want to get stuff ready in LOTRO for the Isengard expansion.  That means finishing up Book quests, progressing my crafting, maybe leveling an alt… maybe.

All of this seems like a lot for me to do now that I have it written out.  We’ll see how much I can accomplish.

I’m looking forward to Wednesday

PAX East starts up later this week.  Out of the kindness of their hearts, Anet is planning a week of pre-PAX information.

  • Tuesday: Lead Systems Designer and all-around-great guy Isaiah Cartwright Esquire the Third will talk about the revamped attributes system in an in-depth blog post.
  • Wednesday: Game Designer Andrew McLeod will give you some insight into Guild Wars 2’s crafting and gathering systems.
  • Friday: The thief page goes live on GuildWars2.com, complete with skill videos and all the usual bells and whistles you expect from a profession reveal.
  • Friday: We’ll send you an update from the floor of PAX East!

Now, I’m not sure if the Friday-Friday release is a typo and it should be Thursday-Friday.  Either they will fix it or we’ll just wait and see.

Crafting though is the focus of this week for me.  I know that each player will have their own “instance” of nodes around the world so there won’t be any competitive/gank gathering, but I want to know what those crafts will focus on and how player will go about crafting.  Hopefully there will be something interesting.

I may also talk about Thief and any potentials the profession has on Thursday/Friday (whichever day it comes out).
